Lothlenan (Andrea Tamme) takes to YouTube and shares her process as well as some snippets of creative advice.
How to draw ears! I break is down for you in this nice and short video. Ears are one of those things that can easily be hidden, and when you hide it on purpose it is pretty evident that you are hiding it because you either can\t, or don\t want to, draw them! So let's stop shying away from things that make us uncomfortable. Let's learn to draw ears. Fun fact, I never say the word tragus in this video because I actually didn't know how to pronounce it correctly bahaha
Painting Zelda in a classical style, ala the pre-Raphaelite almighty, Edmund Leighton! Twilight Princess Zelda has such a beautiful elegance to her, I felt this was the perfect excuse to paint her. This takes us about 80% there, I'll continue painting it and if you'd like to see the absolute final version, make sure you stay attentive to my Instagram + Tumblr! I post all the things there
Painting rocks is a bit of an underrated artform -- and by saying that, I mean there is no one size fits all method. I will show you ONE way, here. You can adapt it depending on what you like and don't like about it -- and perhaps you will find something that works for you! For me, I find it a nice quick way to get a certain look, without too much fuss.
What would I go back in time and tell myself, to be a better artist? This. This piece of advice is something I didn't figure out until YEARS after I began drawing. Hope it helps you.
This is a quick but IMMENSELY helpful tip for rendering eyes (you can do this in a painterly way, or in a more cel-shading type of way, doesn't really matter). But here is where it helps: it will make eyes that look flat appear more dimensional. Check it out over on my YouTube!
When looking at concept art, you often see it's in black and white (or greyscale!). Why is that? There are a load of benefits to developing your illustration in value before you actually lay down the color. And really, limiting yourself can help to crystalize things on a whole new level! Plus it's a great way to go about changing your color scheme later on, if something doesn't pan out. For this demo, I am showing you how I used this process in one of my own paintings, Aquarius! Join me as I discuss the pros and cons to painting in value and greyscale!
Why is everyone drawing with blue lines?! IS IT A PENCIL CRAYON? IS IT A PLANE? Is it magic?! Is that why everything they draws looks so good? If you draw with it then your stuff should look just as good, right? RIGHT?! Bear with me as I unravel the mystery of the blue pencil for you. Trust me, it's everything and more.
WHAT IS ANIME? And why does everyone give a flying toot about ANIME EYES?! WHY. Just kidding. Anime is my jam and I'm going to teach you something about it. Also teach you how to paint an iris that looks like an actual iris.
In just 60 seconds, I'll show you how I would draw an eye + I will break it down for you in the absolute easiest way! This is aimed at beginner artists, so if you are a more intermediate or advanced artist I don't think you will learn anything new here. But if you are new to drawing, I cover both my process + the technique at the same time, so pay attention! ;P
Somehow my dog got a hold of my editing software? Ok then. Sorry, I didn't know she was going to do that D: Kaja is my shikokuken and she is super smart so I guess listen to her, hahaha. Also I was wondering why there was all that poop in the backyard!!! Ugh.
Hello guys! Painting with color layers is the technique demonstrated in this process video. I start out with a tonal painting (tonal paintings are limited palette pieces I like to do because it helps focus more on harmony or atmosphere). It's actually a lot easier to do it this way if you are balancing a lot of different colours and maybe not nailing the hue or saturation. It's similar to when folks color grey scale paintings, only looks less dead because warmth is already built in to the piece!
How to draw evil eyes! Bad guy eyes! Antagonist eyes! Yes this is a discussion on exactly that. I'm even using 5 examples based off of character eye designs from my childhood (maybe yours as well? Depends how old you are I guess, hahahaha). This educational discussion will break down why these eye designs work as 'bad guy eyes' even though they are so very different from one another.
In my previous videos I showed you the key to drawing the best eyes ever. To catch the first and second episodes of that, click the links just after this little text block! But in this episode, I will break down why these five character designs work with the eyes that I've drawn for them. The best way to learn is by example, and I'm giving you five at a time!
In my last video I showed you the key to drawing the best eyes ever. In this episode I will go over five more examples using five new character prompts. Old. Young. Alieny. No character is immune to my pencil. Know your character and who they are, and apply that to their eye design.
The key to drawing the best eyes ever? It exists! It's simple, and I will show you how I make these five sets of eyes stand out by using this one simple trick. The key? Characterization. Know your character and who they are, and apply that to their eye design.
I've always thought venus flytraps were cool -- so what about making a whole pattern of venus flytraps?! Never tried before... that is, painting venus flytraps OR painting patterns. So bear with me as I figure this out (spoiler, I do). Creating a seamless pattern in photoshop is as easy as this xD
I love the serenity and beauty of a good old forest scene! I find that I'm really inspired by Ghibli background art, and the Ghibli style in general. It's probably influenced me a lot actually. So here I am, painting a forest scene with digital media, and I even take you guys for a little walk in the woods! Hope you enjoy the chill vibes.
Michelangelo was a real Renaissance Man. He painted, he sculpted, he knew Kung Fu (actually no, that was a turtle... wasn't it?). He was a master of the body in 3D form, and that translated to incredibly voluminous looking figures in a 2D space. Let's see what we can learn from him. The Old Masters were cool. They were the original retro. Retro art, man.
Learning how to draw strong girls... because girls with muscles are cool. Art exercises are just as important as physical exercises! Remember that! Also I don't know why I said 'lose calories' instead of 'burn calories', hahahaha derp derp.
CRUSH THE ART BLOCK. On my Instagram had a LOT of people asking for this, so here it is! Finally on YouTube! How to get over an art block... advice from a professional illustrator.
This is a trick (can even call it a hack) that I learned from some art pros way back in school. It plays well with a lot of my favorite color schemes!
